On A Plane
posted by Tach at 8:02 AM
Whoa, really late on the comic. Sorry, took some extra time, as I was experimenting with new highlighting and such. I'll keep to the schedule, so look for a new one come Sunday/Monday. I was really close to calling this one "Maternally Fornicating", but it didn't look as good on the title bar, so... I went for the obvious. Anyone who hasn't heard about this movie needs to check their internet connection- it's everywhere. It's a very simple, honest film. Snakes. On a plane. That's it. No Shamalamaloo-type twists, no gee-golly feelgood ending, no high morals. Just Samuel L. Jackson versus some m-f'ing snakes. The comic grew out of a conversation between me, Mac, and Scott during AW's birthday a few weeks ago. We've found that anything is fodder for the "Snakes" sequel, and you can make anything funnier by saying: "It's (whatever). On a plane." Other modifiers can be applied, obviously, with hilarious results. Last weekend was a fun time- we hung out with tE and AW again at the Castle. Saw some really good shows by guys that tE knows and studies from. Really impressive stuff. Can't wait to go back. We also goofed off with a video camera, for a new project we're working on with some friends. More about that if/when something comes of it. I'll tell you this, though- some people will be choking on their own bile if this gets pulled off. This coming weekend is going to be exciting as well. Darcia is back in town, and she and Mac are going for the record on DCA's California Screamin' on Saturday. Our good buddy Jay and I will be there to cheer them on, and offer ice packs for their fannies. The record right now is 65 in a row, and Jay's got a lock on it. There's a reason they call him king of coasters! But Mac and Darcia have been raring to go and give him a run for his money. I'll provide photo documentation to show the world. Wish them luck. Sunday... I might get a haircut. Exciting! T-minus 12 days until the Nate and Cory Show 2006! W00T!! - Talk Hard
It's All Good News

We're stoked! KeepToTheCode.com has been selected as an official Honoree for the 2006 Webby Awards! What does that mean? Well, it means that KTTC is a site that the Webby Academy has deemed "Webby Worthy". We didn't quite make the cut this year to be nominated, but we've been given an honor nonetheless. The fabulous gang over at YourPlanB has outdone themselves in creating the design and the KTTC crew has been excellent at keeping the ship afloat- all in the name of bringing the fans of Disney's PotC movies together at the Official Fansite. I'm proud to be on the team! So look out- because next year, the competition will be blown out of the water! (not that they haven't been already... but I'm tellin' no tales) Speaking of good news, my good friends over at The Bolter and Chainsword are back in business, after a long hiatus due to technical difficulties. If you're into WH40K, and you play in Power Armor, the B&C is the place to be. Visit them, won't you? Since the hits keep on coming... UAB celebrates today, as registered members hit 700 in just 5 months! Congrats to them, and here's to another 700 by September! And finally, the weekend in review. Saturday marked the celebration of AW's 21st birthday- and what better place to celebrate than the Magic Castle in Hollywood? Once again, we were graciously invited by tE to attend the coolest point in prestidigitation in order that we may give AW no end of grief for being able to legally drink. We got to see some fantastic acts including Daryl, a legend in the Castle community, Dave Cox and his Evil Hypnotist Monkey, and the marvelous Chef Anton, who does not actually wear a chef's hat. He wears a bowler. And a sly smile. We even had the pleasure of watching tE perform some tricks for us in a private showing. He's better than he gives himself credit for, even though he's admittedly rusty. Get in some practice, and you'll be headlining the Close-up Room, man. A huge thanks to Scott for being the coolest dude in the house Saturday night as well. Some of the company might not have been as desirable, but Scott continues to be one of the funniest and spot on guys I know. Next drink is on me. Easter Sunday we spend lounging around. We did nothing, and it was everything we thought it would be. Anyone else got some good news to share? Hit the Contact button and drop me a line! - Talk Hard
They'rrre... Pretty Good

I'm not going to try and kid you. This one is all my fault. It started innocent enough, just discussing cereal, and how they'll pretty much do anything to market to specialized targets. The problem? How to get those southern booze hounds to start eating boxed cereal? The solution? Hey- give 'em what they want! Thus, proving that good old JD isn't just for drinking anymore. Spring is in the air here at Flannel Jedi, and we're hoping to do some spring cleaning! That means more photos in the Galleries, and hopefully more comics at a faster pace. Of course, it also means cleaning the offices (read: the apartment) and getting ready for a visit from everyone's favorite silver monkey, and his handler. Next month is gonna be fun. Until next time, keep your knees loose. - Talk Hard
Why Squirrels Hate Us

No, I couldn't think of a better title. Well, a week and a half late, but the new comic is up. This time, Mac runs afoul of a particually picky park dweller, with hilarious results. I did kind of rush this one out, and the lines aren't as smooth as I wanted them to look- chalk that up to updated WACOM drivers. I need to get back in the groove of using the sensitivity to my advantage. Also, the backgrounds are pretty simple, but I did put in more time on these than in the recent past. I'm hoping to practice more there, too. So, yeah, I'm still sick, which has added to why the comic was delayed. I'm pretty convinced that I got it from someone other than Mac, as her illness went away quite quickly. Also, I did a fan art piece for Marek over at Talking Heads. You can find it on the forums. All of that leads to delays. Good news is, I'm on schedule, so I should be able to keep things going at this rate. Some bad news, but I think I'll hold on to it until later. It's not exactly mine to tell, so I'll wait. In the meantime, enjoy this week's Side Project, and we'll see you later. - Talk Hard
Rainbow Bridge to Midweek

Morning, all. Here it is Wednesday, and I'm already tired and wanting it to be the weekend. I'm late with a comic- which I haven't even started on yet- it's rainy and cold outside, and to top it off, I've caught a cold from Mac. It's in the first stages, but I can already feel it coming on. Ugh. Monday, I tried to see my niece who was playing with her high-school band at Disneyland. The show started at 11:30, and lasted a half hour. Leaving at 10:30, I flew down the 101 and the 5 and made it within an hour, which isn't that bad on a weekday- plenty of time to at least get in and take some photos. . The problem came when I got there. I was delayed at the tram from the parking garage, and there was a huge line to get in. Took me 20 minutes. I had to walk from the gates to the Plaza Gardens, and that took 5 minutes due to the crowds. I got there just in time to see the kids take a bow and walk offstage. I didn't even get a single photo. I tried to get the attention of the band director, to at least ask him to let my niece know I'd tried to see her, but he blew right past me. So, feeling dejected, I wandered around the park amongst the crowds, slightly damp from sprinkles. I managed to salvage a bit of a mood, and shot some photos. If they're good enough, I might put them up on the DL section... So, my week hasn't improved since then. I'm hoping that it'll just pass quickly, so my weekend can get here and I can relax a bit, and ride out any possible illness. - Talk Hard
