Musings in Green
by Tach on Jan.12, 2010, under Nothing Specific
Mac asked me last night who my favorite Green Lantern is. Interestingly enough, I’d been asked the same question back in October, at BD’s birthday pool and beer extravaganza. While my answer to the first instance of the question was reasonably short- I was explaining it to a fellow GL fan-boy- when Mac asked, it turned into a Brodie-esque explanation of GL history for the last 15 years.
I explained that, in a spat of DC’s “let’s replace our regular Silver Age Heroes with Extreme! youngbloods” action, Hal Jordan went zippo-bonkers after Coast City was destroyed by Mongul and Cyborg-Superman (I left out their details, no need to get that deep into it), his subsequent evolution-via-CPB absorption, and Ganthet’s passing of the torch to Kyle Rayner. Who, in the next few years, became a heavy hitter in the DCU, and garnered a respectable fanbase of his own, before Geoff Johns’ hard-on for the Silver Age came along to resuscitate Hal and all that jazz in 2005’s GL: Rebirth.
So, my bottom line to her was, that while I was indoctrinated into comics with Hal Jordan as the best and greatest Green Lantern, Kyle has a special place in my fan-boyism, and that part of me is sad to see him shoved aside along with Guy Gardner and the rest of the GLC.
But at least he’s fared better than John Stewart, who was supposed to be the JLA’s resident GL. Now, he’s just a footnote.
She responded kindly that I get long winded with these things. She has no idea.

Quick Stop Thoughts
by Tach on Jan.08, 2010, under Nothing Specific
So yesterday at the store I saw 2 check-out mags with the cast of “Jersey Shore” somewhere on the covers. Now, first off, I can’t believe they have these Neanderthals on television, let alone that People magazine is doing a story on them. Secondly, what the hell, people? I really want to smack some people with a rolled up newspaper like a dog who just dropped a steamer on the living room rug.
NO! *whap*. NO!
He knows what he did.

Today’s blog music: Magical Mystery Tour
First off, Happy New Year to all those I haven’t seen or heard from since 1/1/10. Hope nobody ended up puking.
So, big doings lately. For those who haven’t heard, Mac and I closed on a house. It’s a nice 3 bedroom place with ample seating, and a TV and a bar. Okay, no bar, but thanks to New Year’s Eve, we have a cupboard that is full of booze. We’re amply stocked.
We’re still living partially out of boxes right now. The kitchen has been mostly unpacked- easiest to handle, I suppose. Curiously, we seem to be missing some silverware, not sure what other box might contain the elusive knives, forks and spoons- but I’m sure they’ll turn up eventually. I mean, how many boxes can we have, right?
You had to ask. We and everyone who helped us move (thanks to everyone again) all wonder the same thing: how could we fit so much stuff into a one bedroom apartment? To be quite honest, we’re not sure. It really seems like some sort of Time Lord science- we had more stuff that could logically fit in. It all nearly packed a 24-foot U-Haul truck. Dumbfounded, we stare at boxes still, wondering where things like the cordless phone are, and who might have marked a box with “collectables”.
That would have been me, by the way.
Still, we made it out of that apartment down from the airport and the brewery where they shot interiors for that last Star Trek movie. I kid you not- it was the Budweiser plant on Roscoe. Look it up.
“Though she was born a long, long time ago, your mother should know.”
That reminds me, I need to download Rubber Soul and Sgt. Pepper for Beatles Rock Band.
That reminds me again- my mom LOVES Rock Band. Specifically the Beatles, but in general, too. We had a grand time playing with our friends after working hard on moving day.
(Music stops momentarily as Mac returns home)
Anyways. Right- house.
Unofficial name party name is Corellia. Look that one up in your Expanded Universe encyclopedia. We shall keep it.
I was planning a Wednesday comic review for this entry as well, but this keyboard is currently driving me crazy. I shall probably not keep IT. It’s either the keyboard, or my computer is having trouble running iTunes and Notepad at the same time. Neither of which makes me very happy.
Okay. Resolution started. Write more blogs. We’ll see how it proceeds.
